The machine must still be capable of performing all the experiments that the current setup can, including the selection of nuclei, solvents, water suppression, and field gradient-dependent experiments. 2. It should not have increased demands for compressed air but should be able to utilize the same compressed air system as the current machine /autosampler. 3. It must be able to automatically run a queue of individual samples and experiments from multiple users with the autosampler. 4. It should be able to communicate with and apply the BCU II cooling unit. 5. It must be able to utilize the current Dewar system with liquid nitrogen for cooling air for low-temperature experiments. 6. It should be possible to use the existing probe as a backup and reserve probe. 7. It must include software and computer upgrades. 8. It should be easy to perform non-uniform sampling (NUS) in 2D experiments. 9. It must have a setup for qNMR experiments. 10. It must include delivery, setup, and basic training for the instrument in the new configuration. The instrument is used by several research groups across multiple departments at the TN faculty and is employed for a wide range of experiments on various atomic nuclei. This acquisition will be a mid-life upgrade of the instrument, where only some parts are replaced. A completely new instrument would be significantly more expensive than this upgrade, which only replaces the modules with the most limited lifespan and where technological development is progressing the fastest; and would be beyond budgetary reach. This type of mid-life upgrade is common for these instruments and has also been performed at other universities in Norway. Based on market investigation, it has been determined that a change of supplier would require replacing everything except the magnet for the system to function together. Although the autosampler could likely be adapted to the magnet, a change of supplier would mean that the existing air-cooling unit could not be controlled and that the existing probe could not be used as a spare part. We rely on continuous operation and minimal downtime of the instrument. Therefore, it is important to have the ability to use the existing probe as a spare part when repairs are needed. If the autosampler cannot be replaced within the cost framework, then the existing autosampler cannot be used with another supplier. Changing suppliers would also require a significant amount of additional training for the operational staff and many users. The individual parts are integrated with each other and communicate within an NMR system consisting of a console, probe, magnet, autosampler, and cooling unit. These must work together controlled by a common control program. Therefore, it is not possible to divide the contract into individual units, as these must come from the same supplier to function together.
